Why are employers using telephone interviews?
- Economics.
- Cost and time efficent to use a phone interview.
- There is virtually no waiting for the interviewers.
What can be expected
- Two ends of the spectrum are possible - the casual getting to know you and the rapid fire technical intense aspects.
- Rest assured the person on the other end of the phone does have a clip board and a stop watch and they are evaluating your answers. How can you prepare?
- No different in preparation then a regular face to face interview.
- You can have crib notes so doesn't hurt to have them ready.
- Still important to makes sure that you get your agenda across and emphasise your strengths and what makes you different fom the rest of the candidates.
Do's and Don'ts
- Interview only has one thing to go from on a telephone interview, your voice.
- Be aware that any hesitation will appear worse than it really is.
- Stand up when you're talking on the phone, you will be more assertive and confident.
- Smile - the tone will come through on the phone.
- Remember you are not there to answer their questions, you are there to let them know that you are the best candidate for the job
