Samantha Rathling, Managing Director of Expect Talent in Cork set up her recruitment business in 2005, when she relocated to Ireland from the Netherlands. Since setting up the business here in Ireland, Expect Talent has developed a reputation for responsiveness to candidates, excellence in service and a strategy totally focused on quality for her clients. Samantha has a mission to change people's opinions of the recruitment industry and this is what drives Expect Talent's unique approach to recruitment.
Now with a rapidly growing team, an impressive nationwide client list, and a growing fan base within companies and candidates alike, Samantha and the Expect team are helping the best talent from across Ireland, the UK and Europe to find permanent positions in both large and small companies.
In addition to other sectors where there is still growth and development, Expect Recruitment have seen a continuing requirement for excellent sales staff. This is still top of the priority list for many clients, and with the recent downturn in the economy, many companies have decided to take on additional sales people to compensate for reduced levels of incoming business. Many of these roles are field based and focused on brand new business development rather than account management.
According to Samantha, "There is an ongoing demand for excellent sales people in Financial Services, IT, Telecoms, Engineering and other sectors. Candidates who do well at interview within the sales sector tend to be solid, loyal, committed sales people. It is very rare that a sales person can make a big impact on a company's targets and bottom line if they have only been in their role for 12-18 months. It is therefore difficult to prove real hard facts and numbers against targets during an interview process. Many clients will have alarm bells ringing as soon as they see a sales candidate 'jumping' from one role to the next".
Sales positions are usually recession-proof in that any sales person should be more than paying for themselves within 3 months of starting a new role. In the current market, most outstanding sales people are still employed and many are staying in their current position for fear of being "last in, first out" in a new position. Clients are very cautious when employing in this sector so any candidate who is applying for jobs in sales with less than 18 months experience in their last job should prepare for a challenging interview process and must be able to prove a successful track record.
Despite the doom and gloom we are reading every day in the media both locally and nationally, the opportunities are still out there. Looking for a job, is a full time job in itself! and it is hard work to find that perfect match and keep track of all of your jobseeking activity. The good news is that the jobs are out there, but our clients are more demanding than ever on candidates having a very specific match to their needs. If you work closely with your recruitment partners and do your research on what is available you will find what you are looking for.
